New
Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. has been associated with the Susan
G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race For the Cure® Series since 1989
and has been a National
Series sponsor since 1991.
To
promote increased breast cancer awareness, New Balance has incorporated the
pink ribbon design into several women's New Balance shoes. The company launched a new program, Lace Up for The Cure™,
in 2002 and donated $50,000 from the sales of the shoes included in the program
during the period from July through October to the Komen Foundation, and will
continue this program in 2004. The New Balance Pink
ribbon collection is distinguished by pink tissue paper in the
shoebox as well as a hang-tag that explains the symbol's significance a
the symbol for breast cancer awareness, and the relationship of New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. with
the Komen Foundation. New Balance continues to partner with Race for the Cure New Balance retailers and
individual Komen Affiliates across the country to promote awareness at the
local level. In addition, New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. sponsors "Honorary Team New Balance", a group
of breast cancer survivors highlighted from each Komen Race.
During the Fall, at their global headquarters in Boston, Mass., New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc.
hangs a giant pink ribbon from the top of their building to highlight September's
Komen
Boston Race for the Cure® and October's National Breast Cancer Awareness
Month.
